The ABB Group of companies is a worldwide leader in power and automation technologies. Operating in around 100 countries and employing some 105,000 people, the ABB Group is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.
The ABB Group first realized the value and advantages of international pooling many years ago, and established its pool with Swiss Life in 1988. In 2002, it was time to re-examine the Group’s overall pooling approach. With the support of an international consultant, ABB selected just three Network providers, and also issued a Group directive to bring all poolable business into one of the three pools. Since that time, the Swiss Life pool has experienced major growth and today includes 20,000 employees in 15 countries.

Karl Schmid, Compensation & Benefits Manager and Pool Manager for the ABB Group, who set up the original pool, has recently retired. The Swiss Life Network thanks him for the many years of excellent cooperation between our organizations, and wishes him all the best for the future. Charles J. Salek, Risk Manager for the ABB Group, is the new Pool Manager, and we look forward to continuing our fruitful relationship with him.
