In 1957, the Swiss Life Insurance and Pension Company set up the Jubilee Foundation for Public Health and Medical Research. The aim: to improve public health by supporting non-profit institutions in the public and private domain and promoting medical research.
Although the Foundation's focus is primarily on Switzerland, it may also support activities in the countries in which Swiss Life operates.
The Board of Trustees is made up of seven members – four from the Swiss Life Group and three from the
Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences. The Chairman of the Board of Directors,
Bruno Gehrig, is the Foundation’s President. The start-up capital is CHF 1 million and has been increased several times since 1957.
In 2005, the Board of Trustees granted 14 requests for contributions, giving a total amount of CHF 256,000 to medical research. More detailed information about this is available in the
Annual Report of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (pp.34-36 of German version [report available in German and French only]).
