After graduating in law, Manfred Behrens initially worked as an attorney in a law firm. In 1984 he moved to Hamburg Mannheimer AG, where he assumed various leading positions in sales and law before going on to become federal state manager. In May 1996 he joined Volksfürsorge Deutsche Lebensversicherungs-AG and, in 1998, was appointed a Member of the Board of Directors with responsibility for sales and marketing. He was Chief Executive Officer of Swiss Life in Germany from January 2004 to August 2008. In September 2008, he was appointed Co-CEO of AWD. Manfred Behrens has been on Swiss Life’s Corporate Executive Board since May 2008.
