Due to differing strategic views with the Board of Directors, Manfred Zobl resigns after almost ten years as CEO of Swiss Life/Rentenanstalt. Roland Chlapowski is named his successor.
Prompting Manfred Zobl’s decision to resign his post at the end of February 2002 were differing views on the future of the company’s strategic direction and the timeframe needed to bring long-term projects to fruition – a timeframe which would have exceeded the period of commitment the present CEO had planned to lead the company. The Board of Directors thanks Manfred Zobl for his many years of exceptional dedication and for the success he brought Swiss Life/Rentenanstalt.

Many important steps in the development of the company were taken under Manfred Zobl’s leadership including the transition from a mutual company to an incorporated company, the consolidation distribution channels, the strengthening of the company’s position abroad, as well as important acquisitions in and outside Switzerland. As long-time president of the Life Insurance Association, Manfred Zobl also made a lasting impact on the entire insurance sector.

As a supplement to the communication of end-January, the Swiss Life/ Rentenanstalt assumes – subject to change resulting from the ongoing year-end audit – a consolidated profit for 2001 of more than CHF 100 million. The

Board of Directors stresses the fact that the company has some of the highest reserves of any company in Switzerland.

The Board of Directors will abide by its decision to forego a dividend payment and has initiated a review of the company strategy.

Roland Chlapowski joined the Swiss Life/Rentenanstalt Group in 1995. He managed the subsidiary La Suisse until 1999, during which time he increased profitability markedly. Since 1999 he has headed up the Swiss Division, which conducts all insurance activities for the whole of Switzerland.
