Swiss Life is pulling out of the business of managing private equity investments for third parties as it refocuses on its core business. Existing third-party mandates will be assumed by ALPHA Associates with the consent of the existing client base, including Private Equity Holding (traded on the SWX Swiss Exchange) and 5E Holding. ALPHA Associates is a new company established by the present management of Swiss Life Private Equity Partners specialising in private equity investments. It is independent of Swiss Life and headed by Peter Derendinger. Eleven of the 17 employees who have been working at Swiss Life Private Equity Partners will join ALPHA Associates. The transfer of management responsibility for the assets to ALPHA Associates will take effect as of 1 April 2004, subject to the required approval. The parties involved have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transaction.

Swiss Life's proprietary private equity portfolio will continue to be managed by Swiss Life Private Equity Partners. Pierre Guillemin, Head of Alternative Investments at Swiss Life, will take command at Swiss Life Private Equity Partners. This will concentrate Swiss Life's know-how in the field of alternative investments and ensure optimal management of its own private equity portfolio, in keeping with the company's asset and liability management concept.
