Swiss Life, Fondiaria-SAI and Milano Assicurazioni have considered entering into a joint venture in the Italian life insurance market. In the course of this examination, the companies involved have agreed not to pursue the possibility of a strategic partnership in Italy any further. As originally announced, Swiss Life plans to withdraw from the Italian market. For group insurance clients, and particularly for its international clientele, Swiss Life will continue to offer risk coverage in Italy in future as well. With 23 employees in Italy, Swiss Life's premium volume in that market amounted to CHF 24 million for 2003.
