Swiss Life Holding's Board of Directors is proposing that the shareholders elect Bruno Gehrig to the Board at the Annual General Meeting on 27 May 2003. It is the Board's intention to appoint Bruno Gehrig as its new Chairman, replacing Andres F. Leuenberger, who - as already announced - will be standing down at the 2003 AGM.
Bruno Gehrig, who will be stepping down as Vice-Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank as of 30 June 2003, will serve as non-executive Chairman of Swiss Life. "I am really looking forward to devoting the greater part of my energies to the ongoing positive development of such an economically significant company", said Gehrig. "By uniting the efforts of the Board of Directors, CEO Rolf Dörig and all our members of staff, we will succeed in strengthening confidence and attaining Swiss Life's strategic goals on schedule."

Bruno Gehrig was born on 26 December 1946. After obtaining his school leaving certificate (Matura) in St. Gallen, he studied economics at the University of Berne, where he received his doctorate in 1975. Following postgraduate studies at the University of Rochester, New York, he was awarded a post-doctoral qualification from the University of Berne in 1978, subsequently becoming a lecturer there. In 1981 he left this teaching position and moved into the private sector.
From 1981 Bruno Gehrig headed the Economics Section of the Union Bank of Switzerland. He then went on to exercise various functions in the service of this bank both in Switzerland and abroad. In 1992, after three years as Chairman of the Executive Board of Bank Cantrade Ltd. he went back to teaching and research: He was appointed Professor of Business Administration at the University of St. Gallen and head of the Swiss Institute for Banking and Finance. In the same year he was elected a member of the Swiss Federal Banking Commission. After having been appointed a member of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank, Bruno Gehrig became head of Department III, which is responsible for the implementation of monetary policy, the investment of foreign exchange reserves, payment transactions and IT. The Federal Council appointed him Vice-Chairman of the Governing Board as from January 2001. Bruno Gehrig is married with three children and lives in Winterthur.
