Franz Fuchs, Executive Vice President of Polish Network Partner Compensa, has been named "Businessman of the Year 2006". This highly coveted accolade is awarded annually to the country’s top-performing manager by Poland’s Business Club of leading executives.
Commenting on the honour, Franz Fuchs said: "I am particularly pleased to receive this prize since this is the first time that the title has been awarded to a foreign manager. 2006 was marked by exceptionally strong premium growth for the Vienna Insurance Group in Poland, of which Compensa is a part. Our development was far beyond the market average."

Dr. Günter Geyer, CEO of Wiener Städtische, the parent company of Compensa, added: "Over the past two years we have strongly increased our involvement in Poland, and our six companies are well-positioned in this important market. Franz Fuchs is a top manager with many years of experience in Central and Eastern Europe; he has made a significant contribution to the excellent development of the Vienna Insurance Group in Poland."

When making the award, the jury cited the success of Franz Fuchs and the Vienna Insurance Group in the Polish insurance market, noting in particular his strategic focus on extending the insurer’s distribution network.
